Listen up! Everyone should know their heart risk.

Edward-Elmhurst Health shared in its Healthy Driven blog that a heart scan, also called a heart CT scan, detects early build-up of calcium in the coronary arteries — the most common cause of heart disease. It’s a safe, simple way to keep the beat going — and only takes 15 minutes!

At Edward-Elmhurst Health, our heart scans are comprehensive and personalized.

  • With your CT heart scan, you’ll receive other important screenings such as cholesterol, glucose, BMI, and a blood pressure check.
  • After your scan, you’ll meet one-on-one with a cardiac nurse to talk over your risk factors and next steps.

Who should have a heart scan?

There are certain factors that may make you — or someone you know — at risk for a cardiac event. Men over age 40 and women over age 45 with one or more of certain risk factors should make an appointment for a heart scan. These include:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Family history of heart disease

Our experts are committed to proactive cardiac care, and it all starts with you. You can schedule your heart scan by calling 331-529-8511 or schedule online 24/7. We offer CT heart scans at four locations including Elmhurst, Lombard, Naperville, or Plainfield. The cost is only $75 and payment is due at the time of service.

Are you at risk? Understanding your heart risk is instrumental to good health.

The more you know about your heart health, the better you can take care of yourself. That’s why we offer our HeartAware Health Risk Assessment (HRA) to anyone who wants to know more about their cardiovascular risks. Simply complete and submit the questionnaire and you’ll receive a report describing your risk and recommendations for the next steps. If there is a reason for concern, a member of our team will contact you to determine if further testing is needed.
