A Cure For Your Sweet Tooth

Now submerged into a sunny and pleasant summer, our Chicago land selves may be in search of some refreshing recipes to indulge in under the recently consistent hot sun. While our first guilty instinct may be to charge towards an ice cream truck with $5 and a grin, I hope to offer an ultimatum that is less costly to your wallet and health conscience in the long run.
Recent trends on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have brought delight to the mixing and matching of frozen fruit (pun intended). Below I hope you try some of these popular smoothie bowl inventions. From your kitchen arsenal, you will require a blender, a tablespoon measurer, a bowl, and a spoon.

Smoothie bowl #1: Berry Delight

2 tbs cold water
1 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
3/4 cup frozen peaches
¼ cup frozen raspberries
¼ cup whole milk Greek yogurt
Blend! – if needed, add more water but ensure it’s cold!
Berries should be a default snack for the summer considering that they are low in calories, high in fiber (which helps with digestive health and keeps you full longer), and filled with vitamin C/antioxidants (which helps your body heal efficiently/cleanse itself), and simply delicious!

Smoothie bowl #2: Mango Tango

2 tbs cold water
¾ cup frozen peaches
1 cup frozen mango
Blend! – if needed, add more water but ensure it’s cold!

Hopefully, you are delighted with your smoothie bowl here, but if you are looking to make it a tad more aesthetically pleasing, top it off with some granola, dark chocolate, coconut shreddings, nuts, or chia seeds. These are either high in fiber, protein, vitamins, or just elegant compliments to the fruit!

Smoothie bowl #3: – Chocolate aficionado

¾ cup almond milk
1 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
1 cup frozen banana
1 tbsp nut butter (peanut, almond, etc.)
Blend – if needed, add more almond milk but ensure it’s cold!

Especially for athletes or someone looking to have some protein in their meals, this is an excellent substitute for ice cream as it will still have a creamy richness to it with sources of potassium, protein, and that chocolatey satisfaction!
