The Flat Apple Summer Program is designed to encourage kids to keep their bodies moving when they are on summer break from school.
The summer activity is called Flat Apple because participants need to show the Healthy Lombard logo (a one-dimensional apple) to receive their participation tickets for taking part in an event such as the Healthy Lombard table at the WTTW Kids’ Fun Food Fest, the Lombard Park District’s Open House at the pool, and the Kids’ Corner at Lombard Cruise Night.
They also earn a ticket each time a student completes 90 minutes of personal summer activity, like swimming, playing soccer, riding their bike, etc. The tickets are collected at events and also awarded for answering the Weekly Challenge Questions. At the end of summer, all Activity Tracker sheets are sent in and additional tickets are completed for each participant.
In September a drawing is held for prizes that include a bike, a mini iPad, a Kindle, sports equipment, etc. Children ages preschool through high school were eligible to participate.
Flat Apple 2018!
See Ya in 2019!
Challenge Question of the Week Has Ended
A SINCERE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED!
Congratulations to all our winners!
Healthy Lombard would like to express its appreciation to many businesses and organizations for making our Flat Apple 2018 Summer Program huge success. We were able to engage 196 students, ages preschool through high school, this summer in a variety of activities that kept them moving during the summer months.
First a huge Thank You to Lombard Historical Society for allowing us to distribute the prizes from Flat Apple Summer 2018. Sarah Richardt their Executive Director, is fantastic to work. She allowed us the use of the William J. Mueller Memorial Gazebo for our Prize Presentation. Bill Mueller, the former President of the Village of Lombard, was the co-founder of Healthy Lombard and being able to conclude our summer activity at the Gazebo erected in his memory makes it seem that he is still participating in providing opportunities for kids and their families to get and stay active thus helping to reduce the Childhood Obesity statistics in DuPage County.
We would also like to say a special thank you to the National University of Health Sciences for providing two volunteers. The students checked in the winners, played outdoor games with them, and help distribute the prizes.
Finally, we need to acknowledge the many businesses that either donated or greatly reduced the cost of the prizes. They include:
Addison Ice Arena
The American Girl Doll Company
Culvers of Lombard
Gizmo Fun Factory’s
J & R Cycle, Lombard
Leslie Pool, Lombard
Lexington Square of Lombard
Lombard Roller Rink
Pump It Up (in Lisle)
Studio Movie Grill
Sky Center Martial Arts
