Healthy Lombard’s Flat Apple Summer Program is designed to motivate kids (and their parents since adults are children’s role models) to start, or continue physical exercise, participate in healthy group activities, and practicing healthy habits. The program is designed to encourage kids to keep their bodies moving when they are on summer break from school.
The summer activity is called Flat Apple because participants need to show the Healthy Lombard logo (a one-dimensional apple) to receive their participation tickets for taking part in an event. They also earn a ticket each time a student completes 90 minutes of personal summer activity, like swimming, playing soccer, riding their bike, etc.
Children ages preschool through high school were eligible to participate.
Our Healthy Lombard Partner Edward-Elmhurst Health submitted the following Challenge Question:
Children and adolescents should do _____ minutes or more of physical activity each day. Most of the 60 minutes should be either moderate- or vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity and should include vigorous-intensity physical activity at least ____ day(s) a week.
