Opportunity for Health Care Providers to Learn About Preventing Childhood Obesity

Healthcare providers are invited to learn more about preventing and treating childhood obesity on April 11, 2013, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hotel Arista in Naperville. 

The Summit, “Strategies for Pediatric Obesity Prevention and Control,” is free and is intended for healthcare professionals working with children and their families. Continuing Medical Education credits are available. Registration is at 7 a.m. with the program from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and a local Resources Fair from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Healthcare providers, particularly physicians and their staffs, will learn more about how to treat and prevent childhood obesity, as well meet local clinical and community resources, who will be on hand to explain their programs and answer questions.

A stellar panel of presenters includes:

    Dr. William Dietz, renowned childhood obesity expert who is the former Director of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
    Dr. Vincent Bufalino, Senior Medical Director of Cardiology for Advocate Medical Group, leading a 120-physician cardiology practice serving metropolitan Chicago.
    Dr. David Dungan, a board-certified member of DuPage Medical Group’s Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Departments.
    Ann Marchetti, Director of FORWARD, who is leading obesity prevention efforts throughout DuPage County.

The Summit is sponsored by the FORWARD Action Network, which was created to work directly with healthcare providers with support from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois through a grant from their Healthy Kids, Healthy Families initiative.
