Welcome to the Frosted Apple Fitness Program

The CDC recommends that kids 6 and older get 60 minutes of activity every day…

We at Healthy Lombard understand that COVID-19 safety measures have left many kids without their regular PE classes or other extracurriculars that typically keep them active. Sure, there are a lot of resources out there – websites and newspapers offering advice, print-outs and videos – but what busy parent, guardian, or adult has the time to find and sift through those to come up with a plan for their kids to get in 60 minutes of activity a day? And how do we even get kids to agree to do that?

We want to help!

Healthy Lombard has developed the Frosted Apple Fitness program as a winter spin-off of summer’s Flat Apple to help get kids active during these strange times. Frosted Apple Fitness is free to join and gives kids ages 6 to 14 the opportunity to win prizes based on various fitness and nutrition challenges!

The Frosted Apple Fitness Program includes 10-weeks of the following:

    • Weekly email to registered Parent/Guardian
    • Hand-picked links to fun activities and video demonstrations
    • All links will be in email and on website for quick reference
    • One Nutrition/Food Challenge per week, with the whole week to try it out
    • Week 1 starts January 17th and the program with wrap up on March 28th
    • Registration and Tracking with be done virtually via google forms; we trust you!

Wait what are we tracking…?

Points! Essentially 1 minute of activity equals 1 point. Total points at the end of the 10 weeks will tell us what prize level kids can choose from. It’s a lot like at the arcade, but instead of exchanging tickets for prizes, kids will be exchanging time!

*A minimum of 600 points at the end of 10 weeks will be necessary for prize eligibility, and a maximum of 4200 points is allowed.*

Additionally, for the 1 nutrition-focused challenge a week, that’s simply a short “Did you complete this?” online form. A little like those Exit Tickets kids have gotten so used to. There can be up to 10 nutrition points total, and that means another prize!

What kind of prizes?

Not so fast! We need to retain a little bit of suspense until closer to the program’s end. It is about kids’ health (and making things a little easier on adults,) not the prizes after all, right?

But we will share with you the local businesses that are generously donating items to be used as prizes, and continue to update the list on this site! Here are some so far:

  • Healthy Lombard
  • Orangetheory Fitness
  • Helen Plum Library
  • Lombard Park District
  • Glen Ellyn Park District
  • Butterfield Park District
  • Goldfish Swim School
  • UFC Yorktown Center
  • CluedIn Escape Rooms
  • School of Rock Glen Ellyn
  • Windy City Ninjas
  • Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo
  • and more…

A little recap:

The 2021 program runs January 17 – March 28, but registration can happen at any time after the start date.

More information will consistently be added to this page, including the recommended links to activities, businesses providing prizes, and some more details about how the points work.

Prize winners will be contacted in April 2021, after point totals have been completed.

Please keep an eye out for that first email coming either January 17th or whenever you register after that date. That will include the link to track points/minutes.

Please remember:
